The Next-Gen Frontend Developer: Key Trends & Success Strategies with Hassan Siddiqui—organized by Wajeeha Jalal and co-hosted by Marium Salman
This session was more than just another tech talk; it was a roadmap for front-end developers looking to navigate the ever-evolving world of web technologies. From frameworks and best practices to project-building tips and career strategies, we covered it all!

Frontend Development: The Ever-Changing Landscape
Hassan Siddiqui kicked things off by emphasizing how frontend development is constantly evolving, thanks to AI, better UI/UX expectations, and an increasing number of frameworks. He highlighted Angular, React, and Vue.js as key technologies shaping the field today. If you’re not keeping up, you’re falling behind!
👨💻 “Which one should I start with?” asked Hoor Javed.
Hassan’s advice: If you’re a beginner, don’t overcomplicate things! Start with JavaScript, HTML, and CSS before jumping into a framework.
Best Practices: Write Clean, Scalable Code
One of the biggest takeaways from the session was component-driven development. This technique makes code reusable, maintainable, and scalable—an absolute must in today’s fast-paced development world.
Other key best practices discussed:
✔ Optimize for performance (think lazy loading and minimizing HTTP requests).
✔ Use Git for version control—because nobody likes losing hours of work due to one silly mistake!
✔ Understand asynchronous operations—because waiting for responses without blocking your code is a game-changer.

🛠 Skills That Set You Apart
Frontend developers need to master more than just writing good code. Hassan emphasized the importance of:
- CSS Flexbox & Grid: These are powerful layout systems in CSS. Flexbox is great for one-dimensional layouts (rows or columns), while Grid excels in two-dimensional layouts (both rows and columns). Using them ensures a responsive, organized design.
- TypeScript: An enhanced version of JavaScript that adds static typing, helping catch errors early in development. It improves code reliability, makes debugging easier, and enhances collaboration on large projects.
- Coding Standards & Readability: Writing clean, well-structured code with proper naming conventions, indentation, and comments ensures that others (and even your future self) can easily understand and maintain the code. It reduces technical debt and speeds up development.
AI in Frontend Development: Help or Hindrance?
“On a scale, how reliable is using AI to build an entire website?” asked Marium.
Hassan’s take: AI is a great tool for getting ideas and generating code snippets, but relying entirely on AI to build a website is risky. It can create problems that developers may struggle to solve later. However, using AI smartly to assist in coding is efficient and not something to feel ashamed of—it’s about working smarter, not harder!

Portfolios: Your Golden Ticket
A big debate in the community: Do you need a GitHub profile or a portfolio website?
“Can I use GitHub as my portfolio?” asked hoor.
Hassan’s answer: Nope! GitHub is great for showcasing code, but recruiters want to see real projects, interactive UI, and a structured portfolio that highlights your skills.
📌 Pro tip: Use Vercel to showcase your projects—it’s a great way to make them easily accessible online. Keep your portfolio simple! Even a few solid projects are better than a dozen unfinished ones.

With that, we wrapped up an amazing session, packed with insights, learning, and a lot of fun discussions. If you missed it, don’t worry—there will be more to come!
